Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is preparing to conduct a major computerised housing draw and unit handover on Monday, 9 November, benefiting 9,001 families from economically weaker sections alongside allocating 16 commercial shops. The public event will facilitate the allotment of newly constructed residences under the Slum Networking Project and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
Slum Networking Project homes
Under the Slum Networking Project at Ramapir no Tekra, the civic body will inaugurate and run the draw for 532 remaining residential units and 16 shops in Sector 5, which forms part of a 1,400-unit cluster.
At Urban Park in Sector 1, 700 finished units will be formally handed over, while a draw will decide allottees for another 644 units, bringing the joint total for both sectors to 1,176 homes and 16 shops.
PMAY homes across 11 locations
Simultaneously, the administration will draw lots for 7,825 residential units across 11 locations under the Affordable Housing component of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Each flat features a 28-square-metre carpet area and is located in areas including Nicol, Kotarpur-Naroda, Motera, Shilaj, Odhav and Sarkhej.
Mayor Hitesh Barot and Housing Improvement and EWS Housing Scheme Committee Chairman Darshan Shah confirmed that 97,102 applications were received for the 7,825 PMAY units. To manage unallotted applicants, the municipality will maintain a 50 per cent waiting list comprising 3,912 names.
What the new flats offer
All newly constructed flats feature a living room, bedroom, kitchen, combined bathroom-toilet and a dedicated washing space. The building design incorporates earthquake-resistant structures, vitrified tile flooring, Kotastone kitchen platforms, aluminium section glass windows, main entrance doors and parking facilities.
Rs 1,024 crore of civic projects
Civic infrastructure schemes amounting to Rs 1,024 crore will also be launched during the proceedings. Notable public projects include the elevated corridor between Iscon and Sanand on the SG Highway, a Knowledge Hub at Jodhpur and an Urban Health Centre at Gota.
The draw and the project launches together mark a big day for affordable housing and civic infrastructure in Ahmedabad, with thousands of families set to receive homes and the city set to gain new roads, health and knowledge facilities.
The housing draw is open to the public, and the allotment process will be carried out through the computerised system, with the waiting list kept ready for applicants who do not get a unit in this round.
