A man wanted in a Bantwal case was arrested by Bantwal police at Mangaluru airport on 4 November as he arrived after six years abroad, drawing attention to a case that had waited years for a suspect.

The arrested man was identified by police as Barkath Shaikh, also known as Kallu. According to police, he had been living abroad for six years and was arrested on 4 November 2026 while returning to India.

Accused was living abroad

According to police, the arrest followed a case registered at Bantwal Town Police Station, which Bantwal police were said to have followed across years as the accused remained outside India. A 20-member special team under Bantwal Town Police Station gave the lead for his arrest, based on intelligence gathered by officers watching his movements.

Second arrest in a day

Also arrested was Rayan, who police said was the accomplice in the case and was arrested the day before, on 3 November. Following his arrest, police brought him before the court on Wednesday, 4 November, and obtained custody of him.

Police said they must investigate the whereabouts of the accused and the motive behind the crime, recording details of their actions and verifying the circumstances of the case. The officials further said that a large amount of money was outstanding from the incident, as per reports.

Police build the case

The scale of the operation suggests how seriously Mangaluru police approached the arrest. A 20-member special team is unusually large for a single arrest, but it reflects the time that had passed and the absence of the accused from India. With both suspects now in custody, police have a base from which to build the case.

What happens next

Both the accused and his accomplice face further proceedings, with police promising strict action in the case. As the case progresses, the two accused are expected to be brought before the court to answer the charges. For now, the arrest is the key outcome, closing a pursuit that spanned six years and two arrests.
