A case has been registered at Kadaba police station over the theft of parked bikes in the town, after two separate complaints were lodged.

Ansif T., a resident of Timaradka in Kadaba village, had gone to a wedding ceremony at Anugraha Hall near the Kadaba to Uppinangady State Highway. The bike he had parked there was stolen while he was inside.

In a second incident, a bike belonging to Munir, parked under the Ifrath Arcade building in the same area, was stolen on Friday night. A complaint was lodged at Kadaba police station in that case as well.

On checking local CCTV cameras, it was found that the accused switched off the street lights and stole the bike in the dim light.

Two thefts, one pattern

The two thefts happened in the same area of Kadaba and followed a similar pattern. Both bikes were parked in places where people leave their vehicles for hours, one at a wedding hall and the other under a commercial building.

The CCTV footage gave police their clearest lead. It showed the accused switching off the street lights before the theft, using the darkness to work unseen. The detail suggests the theft was planned rather than opportunistic.

Police have not said whether the same person is behind both thefts, but the timing and the area point to a single gang working the town. The investigation will now look at more CCTV footage from nearby shops and buildings.

What the footage shows

The cameras captured the accused moving in the dark after the lights went out. That single detail has become the centre of the investigation, because it shows intent and preparation.

Street lights are often the only security in parking areas at night. Switching them off is a simple move, but it makes identification much harder, and it shows the thieves knew the area and its lighting.

Police have asked residents and shop owners to check their own cameras and to report any suspicious movement around parking areas on Friday night.

A warning for vehicle owners

The thefts are a reminder to vehicle owners in Kadaba to be careful about where they park, especially at night. A bike left under a building or in an open parking area is an easy target when the lights are out.

Owners have been advised to use additional locks and to park in well-lit, watched areas wherever possible. Wedding halls and commercial buildings in the town have also been asked to keep their parking areas lit and, where possible, watched.

Kadaba police are continuing the investigation, and no arrests had been reported at the time of publishing.
