A woman was injured in a hit-and-run on the Subrahmanya to Uppinangady road near Bajkere in Aithoor village, Kadaba, on the morning of Friday, 6 November.
The injured woman is Darshini, 39, a resident of Kallaje house in Aithoor village. She was riding her scooter to work when a black coloured vehicle coming from the opposite direction hit her at Bajkere and fled without stopping.
Darshini fell to the side of the road and was injured in the fall. A local man, Tirupati, attended to her and informed the rubber plantation maistry and supervisor, and she was admitted to Kadaba Government Hospital.
A case has been registered at Kadaba police station, and police are looking for the vehicle that fled the spot.
A morning ride that ended in hospital
Darshini was on her regular ride to work when the collision happened. The road near Bajkere carries traffic between Subrahmanya and Uppinangady, and the morning hours are busy with commuters heading to work and to the plantations.
The vehicle that hit her did not stop, and no one at the spot could note its registration number in the moment. What is known is that it was black in colour and was coming from the opposite direction when it struck the scooter.
Tirupati, who was nearby, reached the injured woman quickly and raised the alarm. He informed the rubber plantation maistry and supervisor, who helped arrange for her to be taken to Kadaba Government Hospital.
Police case registered
Kadaba police have registered a case over the incident. The investigation will focus on identifying the vehicle from the description given and from any CCTV cameras along the stretch.
Hit-and-run cases on rural stretches are hard to solve quickly, because the roads often have few cameras and the vehicles leave the area before anyone can react. Police have appealed to anyone who saw the black vehicle near Bajkere on Friday morning to come forward.
Darshini is undergoing treatment at Kadaba Government Hospital. Her condition was not stated in the report, and no further medical update was available at the time of publishing.
A road that needs watching
The Subrahmanya to Uppinangady road passes through villages where two-wheelers share the road with cars, buses and goods vehicles. Riders on this stretch have long asked for better enforcement of speed and lane discipline.
Friday morning's incident is a reminder of how quickly a routine commute can turn dangerous. For Darshini, a ride to work ended in a hospital bed, and for the police, the search for the fleeing vehicle is now under way.
Residents of Aithoor village have asked for the police to step up patrolling on the stretch, especially during morning hours when plantation workers and office commuters are on the road in large numbers.
