Harichand Jat alias Hari Boxer, also spelt Harry Boxer and Hari Chand Jaat, 40, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has been detained in the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Efforts are under way to bring him to India.

Rajasthan Police said on Sunday that the detention was secured by the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force through sustained coordination with international agencies, including the CBI and Interpol.

Boxer, a resident of Chatarpura village in Kotputli-Behror district, Rajasthan, allegedly ran the gang's extortion and shooting network in India while staying abroad, and played a key role in supplying weapons to the Lawrence Bishnoi-Rohit Godara gang.

He is wanted in more than 22 criminal cases, including attempt to murder and organised crime. He allegedly issued threats to actor Ranveer Singh and director Rohit Shetty in February 2026, and was linked to a shooting outside Rohit Shetty's Mumbai residence.

The dunki route out of India

He fled India in April 2023, travelling through Dubai and the Dominican Republic, and Guyana, according to the Anti-Terrorist Squad press note, before entering the US through Mexico on the illegal 'dunki route' and settling in California. He was detained by ICE on Friday.

An Interpol Red Corner Notice was issued against him on 14 November 2024. A provisional arrest request was sent on 21 February 2025, followed by an updated dossier in August 2026 and fingerprints in October 2026. Nine Interpol notices were sent to the US, and 14 Interpol references were sent through the CBI to authorities in five countries.

The operation

The operation was conducted under the supervision of DIG Yogesh Yadav, with ASP Siddhant Sharma and DSP Ravindra Pratap playing key roles. Anti-Gangster Task Force Additional Director General Dinesh MN confirmed the detention.

His alleged criminal activity spanned Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The detention was first reported on Saturday evening. Sunday's confirmation from Rajasthan Police, and the extradition process now under way, are the latest developments in the case.
