WhatsApp, the world's most widely used instant messaging app, is no longer limited to chats and voice calls, with much of users' daily routine now running through it. To make life easier for its hundreds of millions of users, WhatsApp keeps adding new features, and its latest addition is a particularly useful one in the Status section.
The new feature lets users edit the caption of a photo or video Status after posting it. Until now, if a caption carried a typo or missed out an important detail, the only fix was to delete the entire Status and upload it again. With the new option, users can correct the caption directly, saving time and avoiding the hassle of re-uploading the photo or video.
A 15-minute window to fix mistakes
Reports say WhatsApp will give users 15 minutes after posting a Status to edit its caption. During that window, mistakes in the caption can be corrected. Once the 15 minutes are over, the edit option will no longer be available, so any error spotted after posting needs to be fixed quickly.
The process for editing a caption has been kept simple and takes only a few seconds. That matters because Status mistakes usually happen in a hurry: a word typed wrong in haste, or a key detail left out while posting quickly. The new feature removes the penalty for those small slips, as long as they are caught in time.
Rolling out gradually
As with most WhatsApp features, the rollout is gradual, so the option may not appear for every user at once. Users who do not see it yet should expect it to arrive in the coming days as the feature reaches more accounts. For regular Status users, it is a small change that removes one of the most irritating parts of posting: having to start over for a single wrong word.
