Reliance Jio has now launched voice-only plans in line with the telecom regulator's mandate. The new packs, listed under a separate TRAI-mandated Packs section on Jio's website, offer unlimited calling with no data, a welcome option for users who need a working mobile number mainly for calls. Airtel and Vi had already brought similar voice-only plans earlier.

The decision follows TRAI's push to ensure that subscribers are not forced to buy data with every recharge. For feature phone users and second-SIM holders, the new category removes the need to pay for data they never use, while keeping their number active.

The short plans: Rs 147 to Rs 197

The entry-level pack costs Rs 147 and comes with 22 days of validity. The Rs 177 pack gives 28 days, while the Rs 196 pack offers 30 days. The Rs 197 pack works as a monthly plan and runs for a calendar month. All four short plans offer unlimited voice calls on any network, but no data, and the shorter plans also include 300 SMS.

The long plans: Rs 448 and Rs 1,748

For users who want longer validity, the Rs 448 pack lasts 84 days with unlimited calling on any network, 1,000 SMS, and access to Jio apps along with OTT services. The Rs 1,748 pack lasts 336 days and offers unlimited calling, 3,600 SMS and complimentary OTT subscriptions.

Why these plans matter

The key point is that every pack in this category is voice-only. There is no daily data quota and no data at all, which is exactly the point of the mandate. Users who want data can still choose regular packs, but those who only need calls and messages now have a cheaper way to keep their SIM alive without paying for unused data.
