Vodafone Idea, or Vi, has launched voice only prepaid recharge plans for its customers, days after Airtel did the same.

Four prepaid plans have been listed on Vi's website, offering unlimited calling and validity without forcing customers to pay for mobile data they do not need.

The move follows orders from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, which wants operators to offer cheaper call and SMS only options.

The four plans in detail

The cheapest plan costs Rs 179 and offers 25 days of validity with unlimited calling and 300 SMS.

The second option costs Rs 185 and comes with 28 days of validity, unlimited calling and 300 SMS.

Vi has also launched a Rs 203 plan with 30 days of validity, unlimited calling and 300 SMS.

The Rs 206 recharge is for customers who want one month of validity, again with unlimited calling and 300 SMS.

A quiet launch, with no big promotion

Telecom companies usually promote their schemes and recharges loudly, but these voice only plans have been launched quietly.

Airtel had also launched its plans without much noise, and Vi has now listed the plans on its website without any promotion.

The recharges show up when searched for, but they have not been included among the main featured recharges.

At the time of writing, the new voice only plans were available on Vi's website, but they were not yet visible on the Vi app.

Why TRAI ordered these plans

In September, TRAI issued the Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulation, 2026.

Under these rules, Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL were ordered to bring new and cheaper mobile recharges that offer only calls and SMS.

Airtel was the first to launch voice only plans, and Vi has now followed.

These plans can prove to be a money-saving option for people who have Wi-Fi broadband at home and do not need mobile data.

A voice only plan offers only calling and SMS facilities, which is enough for customers who use Wi-Fi for everything else.
