A 34-year-old woman died at Vagga in Bantwal after allegedly being assaulted by her husband following a domestic dispute, police said. Bantwal Rural Police have registered a murder case and taken the accused into custody for questioning.

The deceased has been identified as Sunita Mahadev Desangi, 34. Her husband, Sanjeevkumar, 36, is a native of Jamkhandi in Bagalkot district, and the couple was living at Vagga in Bantwal.

What the brother's complaint says

The complaint was filed by Sunita's brother, Arun Mahadev Desangi, 26, who lives at Athani in Belagavi district. According to the complaint, the couple had been facing marital discord, and relatives had stepped in earlier in an attempt to settle their differences.

After childbirth, Sunita had been staying at her parental home. On October 4, her husband brought her back to their home in Bantwal.

On October 22, Sunita called her brother and told him that her husband was allegedly harassing and assaulting her. The next morning, on October 23, Sanjeevkumar called Arun and said Sunita's health had worsened and that she was being taken to hospital.

When Arun reached there and checked on his sister, he found her dead. He told police he noticed injuries on her body and traces of blood.
