Delhi airport's Terminal 3 now has a low-cost food option for flyers. An Udan Yatri Cafe has opened in the terminal's check-in area, serving tea at Rs 10 and coffee at Rs 20.
The cafe is aimed at passengers who reach the airport early for their flights and want tea or a snack before check-in. It is part of the Civil Aviation Ministry's Udan Yatri Cafe scheme, which aims to sell essential food and drink at low fixed prices inside airports.
What the menu costs
The cafe follows a fixed low-cost menu under the scheme. Tea costs Rs 10 and a water bottle costs Rs 10, while coffee, a samosa and the sweet of the day cost Rs 20 each.
The menu board at the cafe also lists calories, with tea at 79 kcal, coffee at 95 kcal, the sweet of the day at 149 kcal and a samosa at 332 kcal. Packaged drinking water of at least 500 ml is priced at an average of Rs 10.
Why the scheme was started
The Udan Yatri Cafe scheme aims to give air passengers essential food and drink at low prices inside airports, where food usually costs much more. The idea is that no flyer should have to skip tea or a snack before a flight only because airport prices are high.
Where the cafe is located
The cafe sits in the check-in area of Terminal 3 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. It serves people before they proceed for check-in and security, at the point where their airport journey begins.
What it means for flyers
For passengers, the practical gain is simple: a cup of tea or coffee and a snack at prices close to what they pay outside the airport. Passengers using Terminal 3 can now use the cafe on their next trip through the airport.
