Early life and education
Orhan Awatramani was born in Mumbai on 2 August 1999. His father, Suraj Kundanlal Awatramani, is a Mumbai businessman with interests in liquor, hotels and real estate, and his mother is Shahnaz Awatramani. Both parents are directors in companies registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. His older brother, Kabir Awatramani, works in public relations in New York and is the head of PR at Sollis Health.
Orry studied at The Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai, then at a boarding school in Tamil Nadu. In 2015, Humans of Bombay shared his account of boarding school, in which he said he had been exposed to drugs and suicide from a young age, after being sheltered all his life. The account does not say he used drugs or attempted suicide himself.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York, according to his LinkedIn profile, as reported by The Hindu, The Times of India and NDTV. The school itself has not independently confirmed the degree in any report found.
Career
According to his LinkedIn profile, Orry has been listed as a Special Project Manager at the Chairperson's Office of Reliance Industries Limited since September 2017. Reliance has never confirmed the role, and no news outlet has verified it independently. Every report of the job traces back to the LinkedIn listing.
His rise to fame began with an Ask.fm profile that was popular with high-society Mumbai schoolchildren about a decade ago. By his own account, a photograph taken at Kylie Jenner's house during a birthday visit put him on the map. He became known as "Bollywood's BFF", photographed at parties and premieres with stars including Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Nysa Devgn, Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday, and with Nita Ambani and other members of the Ambani family.
His signature is a selfie pose in which he places his hand on the celebrity's chest while posing for the camera. He has joked that the higher he places his hand, the more relevant the person is. His self introduction, "I am Orry", and his answer to the question of what he does for a living, "I'm living, so I'm a liver", have both become part of his public image. He has said he has five managers, including two social media managers, a PR manager, a brand manager and a food manager, and that he has a formal team at Dharma Cornerstone Agency.
Event appearances are his primary source of income by his own account. He has said in interviews that people pay him between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 30 lakh to attend weddings and events as a friend of the family, Rs 25 lakh for a photograph, and that he once earned Rs 76 lakh from a single Instagram reel. The figures vary from interview to interview and none has been independently verified. His Instagram account, @orry, had 2.4 million followers in May 2026 according to PTI, and later reports put it above 2.5 million.
He is also known for his quirky 3D mobile phone covers, including a peeled banana, an egg toast, a frog and a lobster, which have been photographed at Bollywood Diwali parties. At the Khatron Ke Khiladi 15 finale, he wore a yellow Balenciaga tape-inspired outfit, a take on Kim Kardashian's look from Balenciaga's Fall/Winter 2022 show in Paris.
Television and Film Appearances
Orry entered Bigg Boss 17 in November 2023, introduced by Salman Khan as a supposed wild card. He was not a contestant. He stayed in the house for two days, from around 24 November to 26 November 2023, in a pre-planned guest appearance. Janhvi Kapoor called the stint his "mass debut".
He appeared as a guest on the Koffee Awards episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, and has played himself in cameos in Call Me Bae (2024), Nadaaniyaan (2025), The Ba***ds of Bollywood (2025) and Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives. In 2026 he was a contestant on Khatron Ke Khiladi 15, the Rohit Shetty hosted stunt show filmed in Cape Town, and finished as second runner-up in the finale on 4 October 2026. Avinash Mishra won the season, with Rithvik Dhanjani first runner-up.
Orry has said he does not want to act. In October 2026 he denied reports that he would appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, saying a conversation with the film's casting team two years earlier had gone nowhere, and that he loves his reality too much to play someone else's character.
Controversies
Vaishno Devi alcohol case (2025)
In March 2025, Orry and seven others were booked for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the base camp for the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, where liquor and non-vegetarian food are banned. The complaint was filed on 15 March 2025 and an FIR (No. 72/25) was registered at Katra police station under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, for disobedience of an order by a public servant. On 17 March 2025, a Reasi district court granted interim anticipatory bail to two of the co-accused. No outcome for Orry himself has been reported since.
Drug investigation questioning (2025-2026)
In November 2025, Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell summoned Orry for questioning in connection with a Rs 252-crore mephedrone seizure case, after his name surfaced in the investigation. He was questioned on 26 November 2025 for about seven and a half hours at the ANC's Ghatkopar unit. He denied consuming drugs, denied knowledge of drug use at parties, and denied links to the accused. No charges were filed against him. In April 2026, police told the Indian Express they had found no evidence linking him and the other named celebrities to the case, and their names would not appear in the supplementary chargesheet. Police stressed this was not a formal clean chit, and that charges could be added later if evidence surfaced.
Hollywood debut claim (2025)
In November 2025, Orry announced on Instagram that he had made his Hollywood debut in Gurinder Chadha's film Christmas Karma, joking that he was second only to Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt and Aishwarya Rai among Indian actors to do so. The Times of India found that he is not credited in the film's cast and crew listings on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes. The claim remains unverified.
Fallout with Sara Ali Khan (2025-2026)
Orry and Sara Ali Khan were friends since childhood. Orry says the rift began with a 2021 incident involving Sara's mother, Amrita Singh, which he has never described in detail. In August 2025, he posted birthday pictures of Sara and a reel naming "Sara", "Amrita" and "Palak", after which Sara and her brother Ibrahim Ali Khan unfollowed him on Instagram. In January 2026, he told Hindustan Times that reconciling would be difficult unless Amrita Singh apologised for what he called the trauma she put him through. On 3 November 2026, on Neha Dhupia's show Double Date, he called Sara a "fake friend", said he had stood by her in Goa during the 2020 NCB investigation while others told him to leave her side, and said she never called him during his own difficult phase. Sara and Amrita Singh have not publicly responded to his claims. All of the allegations in this section are Orry's claims.
Transphobic slur (2025)
In November 2025, Orry posted a video captioned with the slur "chakka", a derogatory term for trans people. Members of the trans community, including actor Trinetra Gummaraju and activist Harish Iyer, criticised him, and the video was later deleted.
Falguni Pathak mix-up (2025)
In October 2025, at a concert, Orry called singer Falguni Pathak "Falguni peacock" and called Lata Mangeshkar "Lata Mangeshwari", the "queen of Garba". Actor Rajiv Adatia criticised him publicly, calling the remarks disrespectful. Orry later said he had mistaken Falguni Pathak for fashion designer Falguni Peacock and did not know who she was.
