A Police Sub-Inspector assigned to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's security detail died by suicide at his residence in Gandhinagar's Sector-27 Police Lines, triggering shock across the police force. The deceased, Tanvirsinh Jhala, allegedly shot himself with his service revolver.
Neighbours and fellow police personnel rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot, but he died at the scene. Senior police officials, including the Gandhinagar District Superintendent of Police, reached the location, and the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem.
FSL team collects evidence
Given the circumstances of the death, a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory was called to the scene to collect forensic and technical evidence. Police have begun an investigation, and the findings of the post-mortem and forensic examination are expected to form part of it.
Jhala had been serving in Gandhinagar for a considerable period and was assigned to the Chief Minister's security detail, a sensitive duty. Police families living nearby gathered at the scene after hearing the gunshot, and colleagues were reportedly shocked by his death.
Motive not established
Preliminary discussions have raised the possibility of family-related issues or personal stress, but police have not established a motive. Investigators are questioning family members, friends and colleagues to determine whether Jhala had been facing difficulties in his personal life.
These remain unverified accounts, and the exact circumstances leading to his death remain unclear. The investigation is expected to establish what happened. If you or someone you know is in distress, call the Tele-MANAS national helpline at 14416.
