A Redmi Note 10S reportedly exploded on Wednesday, October 21, near a tea stall close to Masauli police station in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. The phone belonged to shopkeeper Digambar Jha, who runs a tea and biscuit stall in the area. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Phone Exploded Moments After It Was Removed From Pocket
According to reports, the phone was in Digambar Jha's trouser pocket when it started making unusual sounds and smoke began to appear. He quickly removed the phone and placed it on the ground. Moments later, it exploded with a loud bang.
The sudden blast caused panic among people present near the tea stall. Despite the explosion, no one was injured, and the shopkeeper escaped unhurt because he had moved the phone away in time.
Cause of the Blast Is Still Unknown
The exact cause of the explosion has not been established yet. It is not known whether the incident happened because of a battery fault, electrical damage, overheating or any other reason.
Without a proper inspection of the device, it would be premature to blame the manufacturer or any specific component. The cause can only be confirmed after the damaged phone is examined.
Previous Mobile Blast Incidents in Barabanki
This is not the first such incident reported in Barabanki. In February 2025, a man in Barabanki was reportedly burnt after a Vivo phone exploded in his pocket.
In June 2025, a phone caught fire and exploded at Barabanki District Hospital. The phone belonged to a road accident patient, and hospital staff controlled the situation, with no serious injuries reported. These earlier incidents do not establish a common cause for the Masauli case.
What to Do If a Phone Starts Smoking or Making Noise
Safety advice shared after such incidents says a phone that is smoking, making unusual sounds or overheating should not be used further. The user should keep a safe distance from the device and also keep other people away from it.
A swollen battery should not be opened, punctured or pressed. The phone should be taken to an authorised service centre for inspection, and personal safety should always come first.
Safety Back in Focus After Masauli Incident
The Masauli incident has brought mobile phone safety back into focus in the area, especially after similar cases were reported in Barabanki in the past. The quick action by the shopkeeper, who removed the phone as soon as smoke appeared, prevented any injury.
Until the cause is established through inspection, the incident remains a reported explosion with no injuries. Further clarity is expected only after the device is examined.
