Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has raced to Rs 541 crore in worldwide gross in its first six days, trade estimates by Sacnilk show, making the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial the fifth-biggest Kollywood film of all time. The sequel held strongly through its first Tuesday and now faces its first real test of stamina in the second week. A dispute between Sun Pictures and exhibitor PVR-Inox over the Hindi version's OTT window, meanwhile, continues to hang over the film's run outside the South.
Jailer 2 Box Office: A Giant Opening Carried Into the First Week
The film opened to Rs 76 crore in India net on its first day, powered by advance bookings of Rs 43.9 crore in India and close to Rs 90 crore worldwide. Worldwide, the six-day gross stands at Rs 541 crore, of which the overseas markets contributed Rs 204 crore, according to Sacnilk's estimates.

In the all-time Kollywood list, Jailer 2 now sits behind 2.0 (Rs 691 crore), Jailer (Rs 605 crore), Leo (Rs 605.9 crore) and Coolie (Rs 518 crore), a ranking assembled from widely cited trade figures. Sacnilk estimates the film's production budget at around Rs 375 crore, which means the worldwide gross has already moved well past the cost of production.
The OTT Window Row With PVR-Inox, Explained
Even as the collections climb, the film's theatre run in one segment has been caught in a commercial dispute. Sun Pictures has given the Hindi version to Amazon Prime Video under a four-week OTT window, while PVR-Inox's long-standing policy for Hindi releases requires an eight-week gap between theatrical release and streaming.
The chain had earlier asked the producers to hold the Hindi version's streaming debut to around December 11, and the standoff has restricted the Hindi version's access to premium screens in the North. The sequel's Hindi-dubbed version, titled Jailer 2: Hukum, is a significant part of the film's northern business, and how the dispute settles will decide whether those screens open fully in the coming weeks.
Week Two: What Lies Ahead for Jailer 2
The film enters its second week on Thursday with a clear field until the next major releases arrive. Whether it can close the gap on Leo and the first Jailer, both past Rs 600 crore worldwide, depends on how strongly the second weekend holds in Tamil Nadu, the Telugu states and the overseas markets.
At 74, Rajinikanth remains the only Indian star of his generation headlining films at this scale, and Jailer 2 is the third of his recent releases, after Jailer and Coolie, to run at the very top of the Kollywood box office. All figures in this report are trade estimates compiled by Sacnilk and are subject to revision.
